Some say I was born with itchy feet. Apparently I was one of those kids who always wanted to know what’s round the next corner.
I wanted to be a guide for as long as I can remember and after formally training in Zimbabwe, my obliging size 11 feet (pictured above) have taken me far and wide, criss-crossing Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa where I now live.
I’ve driven my safari guests thousands of miles. They have variously been guided by my footsteps up the soaring heights of Mount Mulanje in Malawi and the Drakensberg in Lesotho, over the eerily beautiful Namib desert dunes, around the luxuriant winelands of South Africa, onto the spectacular Victoria Falls, deep into remote prehistoric painted caves and around modernistic urban art galleries.
I’ve come to know the particular ways of many of the tribes and the shifting patterns of the wildlife. To chime with the pulse of the wilderness, and plug into the electric vibe of the cities.
I should add throughout my travels I’ve tracked down the smaller hotels, lodges, cabins and spas chosen for their location, comfort and authentic Southern African atmosphere. The perfect places to chill and put those itchy feet up.
