The Victoria falls is the largest curtain of falling water. It straddles between the borders of Zimbabwe and Zambia at 1708 metres wide, with up to 500 million litres descending per minute. The locals call it Mosi oa Tunya “The smoke that thunders”.

Flood season – February to May.
The volume and roar of the river gashing down the gorge is mesmerising. There is so much spray that it can be seen from a distance of up to 50km. Visibility at some look out points can be blocked by the spray. However, the aeriel view is phenomenal. Peak water flow is in April.

Medium water flow – June to August / December to January.

June to August are winter months. Day temperatures are pleasant averaging 25 degrees. December to January temperatures in the 30s. The waterfalls are spectacular with lots of rainbows. Activities include high water – white water rafting. Excellent time for game safaris such as game drives and boat cruises.

November is the driest month. A lot of the rock faces are exposed on the Zambian side which has about 25% of the Victoria falls. The Zimbabwean side with the lion’s share of the Victoria falls and always has good water flow.
